Kitty Greenwood is a professional musician with over 30 years of experience teaching both folk and classical music. She has an extensive knowledge of traditional tunes and dances, many collected first hand on her travels around the continent.
Now living in Diddlebury, south Shropshire, Kitty gives lessons in violin, piano, melodeon, concertina and music theory.
She can regularly be seen performing with HiJinx Ceilidh Band and with WiseWood Folk - a duo with her partner, Garry Wiseman.
Before settling in Shropshire, Kitty lived for many years in Wales where she rapidly established herself as one of the most innovative teachers in the area. She has run fiddle workshops at Sidmouth, Shrewsbury and Fishguard Folk Festivals and at Gleanings Rural Study Centre.
Past projects include ‘Music Makers’ - weekly music sessions for babies and pre-school children, and ‘Sox’ the Newtown childrens’ traditional music band. Several former members of this band are now teaching and performing professionally.
From 2000 to 2013, Kitty was musical director of Ffonic, the Newtown Community Folk Orchestra. Under her leadership, the band entertained at local festivals, raised money for charitable causes and became the most sought-after ceilidh band in the area.
Kitty holds a BA(hons) in music from Leeds University, an ALCM performance diploma and a PGCE from the University of East Anglia.
Kitty currently teaches at Corvedale and Leintwardine schools and is DBS checked.
